Guitarist

Do you want to play rhythm or do you want to play lead?  Are you the kind of person that wants to be in the spotlight and solo all night long, or are you content with keeping the rhythm and grooving to the beat?  The competition is fierce out there, but it seems like everyone needs a guitarist, so there shouldn't be a lack of bands to get into.  There is always going to be someone that's better at guitar than you, but it's not about the skills you wield with your mighty instrument, but the passion and heart you put into your music.

PROS: The possiblities are endless when it comes to what you can do with your guitar.  You are the symbol of Rock, and even if you aren't going to be in a rock band, guitarists thrive in almost all genres.  You get to move around too, drummers & keyboardists are stuck in a certain spot on stage, but you can go almost anywhere you want and rock out.

CONS:  Guitarists are a dime a dozen.  Knowing your limits is important because there are certain types of music that are going to be much more difficult to perform than others.

GENRES: Almost any genre, however the most important thing to remember is you need to make sure you understand what you like, playing metal might not be your thing. Whatever you choose, make sure you understand what makes up the genre, before you commit to a band.

RECOMMENDED STARTUP EQUIPMENT FOR GUITARISTS:

zZounds is my favorite place to look for equipment, and it doesn't hurt to just look.  I realize that most of you won't have a fortune to get the best equipment.  That's ok because if you have the talent, you won't need the best equipment to push you into the limelight.  Your raw talent and motivation is enough to get you anywhere you can imagine!
